Preguntas frecuentes

Can I purchase a burial plot without a death having occurred?

This depends on the municipal regulations, which specify when and how a burial plot can be acquired in each cemetery.

Why is the burial plot title kept? When and where will it be returned?

The burial plot title is the document that certifies the ownership of the grave and is essential for opening it and carrying out the necessary work. Generally, the title is returned by the cemetery or the local town hall once the new deceased has been officially registered in the burial title. The timeframe for this depends on the procedures of each locality.

Can I go to the cemetery in the hearse?

No. Hearses are work vehicles and can only be used by company personnel. At Àltima, we provide accompanying vehicles for the family representative to follow the hearse to the cemetery.

When can I bury my deceased relative?

In general, burial or cremation must take place no sooner than 24 hours and no later than 96 hours after death, depending on the sanitary procedures performed and the preservation of the deceased.

Is burial or cremation cheaper?

The cost will depend on whether or not there is a burial plot under concession in the cemetery where the burial is to take place. If there is no existing plot, cremation is generally more economical than purchasing a new one.

The ashes can be collected within a maximum period of 1 month.

Is it forbidden to scatter ashes at sea?

At Àltima, we offer a fully regulated service that allows families to scatter ashes at sea, using biodegradable urns that are environmentally friendly.

Can I place the ashes in a container provided by me?

Crematoriums and cemeteries are mostly governed by municipal regulations that specify the type of urn to be used and whether it can be provided by the family or must be purchased at the same facility.

Where does the deceased remain if I do not witness the placement in the crematorium?

Once the wake is over, we transfer the deceased to our refrigerated facilities, where they will remain until the time of cremation.

Can I bring a coffin not provided by Àltima?

Both prostheses and dental pieces cannot be recovered, as their removal would require a surgical procedure.

The cause of death in a judicial case is determined by the autopsy performed. This is a document that belongs to the court, and it will be the court itself that provides the result, following the appropriate legal procedures.

When the deceased is taken to the judicial morgue, where are their belongings kept?

Usually, the belongings of the deceased are held by the court handling the case or the judicial police.

How much time passes between the autopsy at the forensic institute and the collection of the deceased by the funeral service?

In a welfare service, am I entitled to a wake room and ceremony?

Welfare services are designed for families without financial means and must be requested through the social services of the corresponding city council. This service includes the basic provisions, from the collection of the deceased to the transfer to the cemetery. As a courtesy, Àltima will provide a space for a farewell ceremony.

How long does it take to collect the deceased?

To proceed with the collection of the deceased, the “Medical Certificate of Death” must be properly completed and signed. Additionally, the family must authorize us to do so and have arranged the funeral service beforehand. Once these requirements are met, the collection is organized as quickly as possible—coordinated with the family in the case of a private residence, or in compliance with the internal protocols of the facility when the death occurs in a healthcare center or care home.
